it is truly a sad day. He reminded me a lot of my grandpa, who was also a drill instructor in the Marine Corps (1954). The first time I watched full metal jacket, the most accurate depiction of Marine Corps boot camp ever in a movie I thought that could be my grandpa Charlie, a true hard dick motherF*****. My grandpa scared the hell out of me when I was getting ready to leave for boot camp, he said don't think they are going to be soft on you like in the movies, I use to kick the shit out young privates in my day. may he rest in peace

Kubrick had Ermey take over for the actor that was supposed to play the drill instructor. He was the only one that Kubrick let ad lib.

An absolute icon for the Marines. I never tired of seeing him and he was the epitome of a "man's man." An amazing actor and was great in his TV series.

I'll miss R. Lee Ermey. Rest well, my friend.....:yo:
