grout color not matching
I have a 180 sq ft kitchen we just finished grouting a couple days ago. About the last 10 ft I added a little more water to the grout and it ended up cracking.

So we removed the grout in that area, and regrouted. Now that area doesn't match the rest of the kitchen. It looks like it's still damp but it's hard as rock.

My questions, what caused this? can it be corrected without tearing out the grout again? And how to prevent this next time?

We mixed about half a box of TEC Accucolor per directions and it seemed to look like the other grout we mixed.

Thanks for any suggestions and your help!!

Hi Jason,

On the back of every bag of grout you can buy, the manufacturer states that you must mix consistently. And we always state that you must apply the grout consistently. You didn't do that, and that's part of the problem with the color. :)

It might be only on the surface. Scratch it a little and see if it's ligher underneath. Maybe we can recommend a cleaner. :)

Hi Jason

All is not lost if you can't fix the grout with regular methods. As a last resort, you can use a grout colorant on the entire floor and get a uniform color. It will be a bit of work, but a lot less than tearing all the grout out and starting over.

Aquamix makes a good grout colorant.
