Easy Mask tape problems
Any tips on removing EasyMask tape that has permanently adhered to paint? I was masking around my gouting job and since the paint was only a week old, I thought Easy Mask would be better than masking tape. Wrong! after being applied for a little over an hour it permanently bonded to the paint.  It's either pulling the paint off or the tape is tearing apart leaving glue and paper residue that is about impossible to scrape off.

Easymask makes at least 7 or 8 different types of tape. Color coded. Which one are you using? White low tack?

The standard stuff with the blue printing which is supposed to be lower adhesion, but not low tack. It tried a putty knife and a wood chisel. Best seems to be my finger tip, but it's slooow going.

I'd try an iron on low setting with a sheet of tin foil over the tape (don't put the iron right on the tape).

It'll somewhat melt the glue so that it'll come off much easier. If there's some residue left over, you can try 'Goof Off' or 'Oops!' to get it off.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up scraping off a little more and then covered it with a thin layer of joint compund. let dry overnight, sand, and paint.

I learned not to bother masking off for grout. Excess grout would have wiped off easily and not harmed the paint. :uhh: ...and don't try to grout too large an area at once. I am at peace with grouting now.
