Shelves in niche
I've looked at all the picture on the site and am wondering what material is used to make the shelf in the niche??

They can be made with a number of materials. In my case I made mine with a piece of limestone. I've seen marble and granite. You can make them with whatever works and looks good to you.

Well, after asking the same question and also talking to a guy who does granite counters etc, I think I'm going to get a piece of granite tile, 1/2 in thick and cut it to size for the shelf and finish the edge. The bottom won't be finished but the feedback I got is it doesn't matter so much, not like looking at the bottom of unfinished tile.

Yup, I like 1/2" granite that I can pick up as scraps at a local countertop place.

I haven't found any granite fabricators around here that use anything less than 2cm. I was going to try to get a piece of 1/2" granite floor tile to use to make shelves as I don't want 2cm or more thick.

I just did the same thing, purchased a granite tile, had the bottom polished and two opposing edges finished with a full bullnose. The shelves look great.
