building a knee wall for alcove tub
I am redoing a bath and want to put in an alcove bath (with shower). The room is not big enough for a separate shower and bath. I want to use a knee wall at the foot of the tub rather than a full wall. Can anyone give me guidance on how high it should be and how wide i should make it? I will be using 3x6 subway tiles on the walls.

Welcome, nyartist. Please put a first name in a permanent signature line for us to use (UserCP/Edit Signature). :)
This the same shower project from late 2006? If so, maybe we can get some idea what you're working on. Otherwise, you're gonna hafta give us a lot more information before we can do much for you, I think. How high and how wide a "knee wall" should be is a pretty broad question. :) My opinion; worth price charged. |
Thanks for the response. I'll try to clarify
I finished the other bathroom, which turned out well. This is new bathroom renovation I am tackling in my basement. The bathroom was very small and had a 5ft tub/shower that was basically the width of the room. I tore down the wall that was at the foot of the bathtub alcove and expanded the bathroom another four feet. Now I don't have an alcove ( I have a corner) with no wall at the foot of the tub to create the alcove. the tub is 5ft long, 30" wide, and 19" deep. I'd like to build a new short wall that is only two or three feet high at the foot of the tub rather than a full wall. I am concerned that such a wall would not be enough support for an alcove tub and looking for any tips from someone who has addressed this in the past. Thanks. Keith |
Short walls like that are built alla time, Keith. Not sure I understand what it's s'posta be supporting, though.
