building a knee wall for alcove tub
 

I am redoing a bath and want to put in an alcove bath (with shower). The room is not big enough for a separate shower and bath. I want to use a knee wall at the foot of the tub rather than a full wall. Can anyone give me guidance on how high it should be and how wide i should make it? I will be using 3x6 subway tiles on the walls.

If so, maybe we can get some idea what you're working on. Otherwise, you're gonna hafta give us a lot more information before we can do much for you, I think.

How high and how wide a "knee wall" should be is a pretty broad question. :)

I finished the other bathroom, which turned out well. This is new bathroom renovation I am tackling in my basement. The bathroom was very small and had a 5ft tub/shower that was basically the width of the room. I tore down the wall that was at the foot of the bathtub alcove and expanded the bathroom another four feet.

Now I don't have an alcove ( I have a corner) with no wall at the foot of the tub to create the alcove. the tub is 5ft long, 30" wide, and 19" deep. I'd like to build a new short wall that is only two or three feet high at the foot of the tub rather than a full wall. I am concerned that such a wall would not be enough support for an alcove tub and looking for any tips from someone who has addressed this in the past.

Short walls like that are built alla time, Keith. Not sure I understand what it's s'posta be supporting, though. The tub doesn't need supported except vertically if it's of the wimpy variety. This gonna be a tub/shower again? Three feet's a pretty short shower wall, eh?
