why are cement board screws so darn expenisve
compared to others
just done a job with steel studs and the wafer heads where
$5. a 100
and cement backer screws are $40 + for 600 up here in the cold nrth west of canada
any one know of better deal's ?
don't mind buying in bulk or a case

I bought some CB screws in bulk from a local supply house that primarily dealt with gypsum board as they dealt with the fastener reps. I can't remember what the exact quantity was (20-25#) per box, but do remember they were considerably less expensive buying them in bulk. Having said that, those were some of the crappiest screws I've ever had the displeasure of using and couldn't wait to be done with them. I'd ask for a small quantity or ask to see the actual screw before committing to a bulk purchase if you're going that route. Self tappers for steel studs are costly regardless.

Bulk is always the best way to go. I don't use many CB screws so I haven't seemed a good supplier. Most of my carpentry screws come from Fasco out of Georgia or Hilti (not a low cost option)

The brand they sell at HD and Lowes is the best I've found. Along with what Cary said, I've tried probably 4 different brands of screws and they all suck. They screw up the glaze on the heads so you can't get your screws started. At least not without a few swear words anyway.

Don't know if you can buy a bigger size than what they sell at HD. Maybe someone will sell a case?

I will have to rummage my files and find the manufacturer sheet I have/had. I know you can buy the good ones in bulk.

See if they have square drive available.

I used to prefer the squares but somewhere along the line I switched over to the philips screws and using a sheetrock bit in a magnetic holder. Now I don't have to worry about slowing down or driving them too far.
