Scratched Glossy Wall Tile Black Grout...how-to-fix

3 Attachment(s)
Got some glossy 12x24 white wall tiles installed with black grout.

It appears there was some scratches on the tile shoulder that was not visible until grouting.

This has never happened before to me...all the other tiles from this pallet have no problems. It's very odd. I don't know what happened with this order to have caused the scratches.

Anyhow, I'm hoping there might be some creative solution out there to try and remove the black from the scratched areas as it's really not that bad...but because it's black on white...it shows.

I'd prefer not to have to rip this entire shower out just for this...

Help please :-)

Welcome back, Bill. :)

Tell us, specifically please, what grout you used.

Sorry, grout was Laticrete Permacolor #22 Midnight Black. It's a cement-based grout.

Thanks!

I would expect that could be cleaned using a mild acid, Bill. I would start with some vinegar and work up if necessary.

The tile industry recommends against the use of any acids on grout that has cured less than ten days, so you'll want to be careful in your cleaning if that grout is fresh. But I think a cloth dipped in vinegar could be used to clean those scratched areas without harming the actual grout joints if a fella was careful.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Ok. Will give it a go. Thanks!
