View Full Version : Stone Tile Outside Wall

I had a thought about putting travertine tile on portions of our house outside. We live in the Okanagan in B.C. Canada and winter temps probably go down to on average of -10C The Travertine is at least 1/2 thick and would have to go on a wood framed exterior wall. (I know that's not ideal) Could I do it much like a manufactured stone install with scratch coat? Do I reinforce the portion of the wall I want to tile with cement backer board or others then scratch coat and tile? Or is it just a bad idea?
Thanks for any tips and advice.

I don't think that putting natural stone, especially one as soft as travertine, outside in that environment is a good idea. More trouble than its worth.
