Doing floor tile. Have 3/4 inch plywood over 16" OC joists. Put down 1/4-inch Hardiebacker and going to use Hydroban on top.

Watching the Hydroban video on Laticrete website, it said don't fill or tape 1/8 inch gaps (I assume between boards) but to fill it with Hydroban.

1. I had just assumed I would thinset and tape all ~1/8-inch (an 8d sinker diameter) joints between Hardiebacker, but now I'm confused. Does Hardiebacker (in non-freezing California climate) need expansion joints?

Answer: gaps between panels are ok to fill with thinset. Concrete expansion joints should only be filled with Hydroban.
