Hi John,
I am starting to remodel my family room bath room which is on a slab. When i remove the existing tile floor, what kind of prep is there to the slab? Thanks for your help. Roger

Hard to say what your prep will be until you get the old tile off.

A small demolition hammer is helpful for removing the old tile and thinset. Once thats up you can see what you've got to work with. See if there are any cracks. See if water absorbs readily into the slab. Check the slab for flatness/level (2 different things!).

What type of tile you using?

Thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking of using Ceramic tile or Slate. I put in a slate floor in my basement and it came out GREAT. Would the Ceramic be different?

Well..............., one would be slate, and the other ceramic. That's different.
