I had a new bathtub installed and it has about an inch gap from the studs on one side. I intend to have cement board installed and tile applied. I understand that the studs can be furred out to make the cement board overlap the tub lip properly; however I do not understand how the cement board will be flush with the existing drywall if the studs are furred out. Should only the bottom of the studs be furred out and the top not be? Then the cement board would angle into the wall at the top. Please advice.

Hi Ally, :)

You're right, the studs won't be flush with the existing wall if you fur them out that far. You'll have to use something to trim off the edge of the tile . . . unless you can fur a wall all the way over to the opposite corner and in effect make the room a little smaller.

Thanks. My tile guy is bringing me some ideas for trim today.
