I've laid a few tile floors, at best I'd say I was a novice. I'm attempting my first shower, and I read about a control joint between the mortar bed and the wall. This is new to me, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a little schooling on this subject. Thankyou. :wtf:

Hi Rob, Welcome

Where did you read this information? Was this refering to the corners in the tile/substrate installation, or something else?

Welcome aboard, Rob. :)

What Rob Z. is wondering is have you read my friend Michael Byrne's book? :D

I don't know of any requirement for backer rod in a shower, period. Control joints are something I've always associated with floors. I'm still learning, though, so stick around. Others will chime in. ;)

Is this a steam shower, perhaps? It is a requirement there.

It was on the journal of light construction board. I read it in the article on constructing mud beds.

I just looked at the diagram from BBCAMP, and I think I understand. Thankyou.

Yep, that would be my friend MB all right. ;)

We refer that article here because it's basically a good one. There are a few points on which Michael and I don't agree, though. ;)
