I am so glad I found this forum prior to installing granite tile on an island countertop. I have a question about grouting granite tile. All of the information I have read on here suggests using at least 1/16" grout lines. However on a trip to the HD I was told I could butt granite tiles together and apply a bead of silicone caulk between the tiles. Has anyone ever heard of doing this before?

We get a lot of folks that want to butt granite together for a "seamless" look. We try to disabuse them of that notion.

Granite tiles will vary in size from one to another, even in the same box.

Silicone doesn't wear as well as grout. It will get burned, cut, and "funky lookin'."
