View Full Version : Floor medallions

We're selecting tile to be professionally installed in our new entryway and are considering installing some sort of floor medallion to add a "touch of elegance". At this point we're leaning to a porcelean tile made by CK Colorker (Marfil Beige).

I'm interested in opinions of how I might dress-up the entry floor - maybe by use of a tile medallian/design, a border or something else. Any design ideas I should consider?

The entry is 5.5ft * 5.5ft at the door but opens up to 7' * 8' - Any medallion/design would be centered in the 7' * 8' space.

Other questions:
> Is an 18" field tile appropriate for this area?
> Is there a website were I can view different medallions or different tile layouts? The ones I've seen at the local tile store aren't quite what we're looking for.
> Does placing tiles diagonally enhance "the look"?
Thanks in advance for your help!

There are alot of different tile layouts for floors, try doing using the search feature of this board or the liberry for web links.

As for 18" tiles, I hope your floor is flat, flat, flat! Let us know some more details so all the experts can help. :; Maybe consider downsizing to 12" laid on the diagonal to add a little flair, given the small size of the room. Get a couple pieces and lay them out in your entryway to get a feel for the colour, texture, and size. I like to put a least 3 pieces across if doing a diagonal pattern.

As for medallions, I know what you mean, they sometimes can be a little too much the same. Again, do a web search or try Ebay for some ideas. But...how bout getting some paper and sketching up your own and have the tile installer cut to fit. Thats kinda what I'm into. Here's one that I'm doing know using Crossville porcelain and I'll be doing about 36 stars for one floors.

I'm sure they'll be other good ideas comin along, Colleen

Colleen-- Try the quilt design I sent you the 3 different pics of-- it's easy to make, and impressive as hell. If you want instructions, I can email them to you. also, if you take a piece of graph paper and draw out the design itself and copy a few blanks, you can sit there and experiment with different variations and come up with totally different designs using the same pattern. As for size, it's about a 2 foot diameter as it's been installed. Why pay the money for someone else to make it up when you can do it yourself. You DEFINITELY have the aptitude!
