Everyone,

I have another question, imagine that.

I am stalling a swing arm door on the shower I am building. My questions relates to when I should attach the door. Should I install in over the tile or before I tile?

Regards,

Derrick

Over the tile.

Make sure the walls are plumb and you have a stud to screw into. Dont rely on the wall and molly ancors to hold it up.

Ok, over the tile.

Do you cut the holes for the screws after the tile is layed?

or

Do you cut holes in the tile where you think the screws will be before you lay the tile?

I did put a stud behid so I am OK with that. I am just worred about the tile cracking.

Regards,

Derrick

Use a masonry drill bit to drill through the tiles. Then screw the door through the properly located holes. Do this after the tile as set up.

Derrick,

It sounds like this might be a long project. :) You might find it helpful to keep your questions on one thread. That way everybody will be up to speed on what you're doing. Just a suggestion. It's up to you. ;)

When I installed my shower door, I discovered that it was practically impossible to drill through the porcelain without a diamond drill bit, which I was unwilling to buy for this one job. I drilled new holes in the door mounting hardware, aligning them with the grout lines. No problem.

I'm at this stage of shower door installation and was wondering if these diamond glass drill bits would cut holes in porcelain tile for the mounting screws? This is the link to the ebay site.

Derrick,

I don't know if you're doing a frameless shower,
but this feature article from the Dec. 2000 issue of
the Journal of Light Construction may be helpful:

If the above URL does not work, go to
http://www.jlconline.com

and type in

Frameless Shower

into the web site's Search function.

Good luck with your project.
