1940's house, 2x8 joist 19.5" o/c, 12' span w/1x6's diagnal subfloor.
I have added additional beams under joist so span is now 6-7'.
I was told that I could add 3/4 T&G OSB, which I have already installed, and could tile directly to this. Now that I have found this site, I think that I may have made a mistake. Thank you big orange box!!! The OSB was installed w/galv r/s nails into joist. What do I need to do to install ceramic tile. Thanks

Welcome electronic buck.

If you want to keep what you have installed down, I would install Ditra (http://www.schluter.com/english/products/2002/sectionf/ditra/601-index.html) over the OSB. It would add only a little over 1/8" to what you have. You can generally find it at the same lovely place that gave you the advice. :)

What Musky :zztop: said. OSB and tile expand and contract differently to moisture and temperature, so the bond is likely to fail prematurely. That's where membranes or backerboards come into play. They make a nice interface for the two materials to get along. :)
