View Full Version : Tip - Sealing caulking tubes

Being a "newbie" I don't have much to offer on tile. But maybe I can help a few with this tip....

The best way I have found to seal an open tube of caulk is with hot glue. Electrical tape works for a day or so, but hot glue is almost as good as the factory. I make sure I eject a small amount to insure no dried caulk is in the tube, then wipe clean, then put hot glue on the tip. It takes a few minutes and you need to keep "rolling" the tube to keep the glue from running off while it cools. When you're ready to use the tube again, just pull or cut off the glue and you are ready to go.

I hate opening up a tube of $5 silicone caulk for a small patch, knowing I will ultimately wind up junking the whole tube. Lots of guys put nails in the tube, then tape. The nails rust and it doesn't work for long time spans.
