I have to remove glue down carpet in a office building and put down tile. It is a slab. Can I use a chemical to remove the glue that will not affect the bond between the mortar and the slab?

Probably not...even then, the adhesive may have leached into the concrete. Razor scrapers or scarcify the surface.

The magic test is to sprinkle some water down on the slab...if it gets absorbed, you're okay if you use a thinset designed to go over that gunk. If it beads up, you need to either keep scraping or remove that top layer.

SOmetimes a sealer was put down on the floor, and thinset won't reliably adhere.

Hi J, Give us a first name. :)

Commercial work often isn't designed to last forever. I would say that if it's not a huge area, just remove what you can and then use high-flex thin set to install the tiles. I've done it in bank lobby remodels, and it seems to last.

I can almost feel the hot breath of the Tile Ranger on the back of my neck. :D
