View Full Version : Outdoor Kitchen / BBQ Backsplash

I created an outdoor kitchen last year with a short overhang to protect my gas grill. The grill is placed on the house wall. I didn't consider the smoke that the bbq would create.

Can I make a tiled backsplash on the stucco? I'm looking at a 5' wide by 6' tall backsplah made out slate tiles. I have extra tiles from my outdoor kitchen project and think that it would complement it well.

Can the slate be adherred to the stucco, and would it fine for a blacksplash? I understand that the smoke/soot problem will be the same, but I think the dark slate is more forgiving at hiding the smoke than a beige exterior wall. I don't mind scrubbing down the back splash, and move the grill is not an option.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If the stucco has been painted, it will need to be taken off in that area before tiling. If it's just a color coat stucco, a good modified thinset will stick to it fine. :)
