Now that I have kerdi membrane and kerdi drain installed, what is the best thinset to use for my tumbled slate mosaic tile flooring and travertine tile walls? Are there differences is quality, do I really need a 'brand name' thinset or can I just use off-the-shelf non-modified thinset? Also, is there any special technique to keep thinset from oozing up around edges of tiles so I don't have to clean thinset out before grouting?

Hi there, do you have a first name we can use? As long as you use an unmodified thinset such as Masterblend by Customs, Full Set by TEC, or Kerabond by Mapei, just to name a few you''ll be fine. Use a 3/16" v-notch trowel for the smaller tiles.
