As part of a bathroom remodel I have been asked to retile a tub deck. The tile was cut around the tub. Not sure but it looks like mastic was used. The tile looks to be in great shape. Think there is any chance I could just remove the tile and retile without replacing the backer board, providing there is any backerboard there?

Rich, it is hard to say. You won't know untill you get in to it. Could be on sheetrock. :)

What Davy said. If mastic was used, pop the tiles then scrape off the mastic with a 4" scraper. I hope chunks of backerboard don't come up. HardiBacker sometimes likes to seperate in layers like slate if you take up tiles.

Best of luck
