View Full Version : granite in shower question

Hello - I built a "monument style" seat in my CBU shower (kinda fun) and had a piece of granite cut for the top of the seat. I would like to confirm that I can treat it just like tile - simply attach it with thinset. I've never used granite. I'm assuming I don't have to seal it first and that there won't be any tendency for anything to leach thru it. Also, where it meets the backer board is definitely above the pan liner. I have 6 mil poly behind the backer board and the seat is sloped a good 1/2". Should I caulk behind the granite? It's a 30X56 shower so the seat will see a lot of water. Seems like caulking would not be needed but I just want to make sure.

Thanks in advance for your help. Steve

White modified thinset keyed into the back of the stone and then set in a combed bed of the same.Caulking should be used at any change of plane.
