View Full Version : Tiling over tile in an existing shower

I'm in the midst of upgrading the baths in a house with 7 baths, so to keep it cost effective I'm doing it myself. First one went great. Tile was in great shape (just ugly) and I went with marble (yes, I know the warnings) right over the existing tile. Changed out the shower controls to a new pressure-balanced one. The only part I couldn't figure was the shower floor -- how to tile over the existing shoer floor without having a lip at the shower drain. So I left the shower floor untouched. Showers are all 30 years old, well built with membranes and no leaks.

Is there a way to tile over the existing shower floor, does anyone make a spacer that will lift the shower drain plate up so that I can overtile and not have a lip there? Any thoughts on this.

thx, Carlos

Can't remember the name at the moment, but yes, they make extenders for this, it can be done.:)
