How close do I need to cut my tile around the shower valve? There is a decorative cover about 6 inches in diameter.

I plan on simply cutting out a corner of my tile big enough to allow access to the valve cartridge, cover the big hole with the decorative cover and simply caulk the decorative cover to the tile.

Do I really need to cut a close round fit when its going to be covered with the decorative cover?

thanks, alex

make sure the hole is big enough for trim installation and small enough to be covered by the trim. I had one of my 3 volume controls cut to small, I did not realize the trim have a plastic stem to be screwed on the valve. I end up using grinder to cut tile to enlarge the hole. pain

Follow the outline of the plastic template that comes with the shower body, some of the cover plates have an indentation that goes into the wall some.:)
