Wanting to skip trowel over old porcelain 4", rather than try to install sheetrock over it first. The tile is in a bathroom, floor up 50", set in 2" cement and chicken wire. I've already removed the mess around the tub, but this is for the rest of the bathroom.. and this is plan "h", so tearing it out will present an issue for my newly tiled floor..and, I'm not enthusiastic about removing more of this mess.

Question is whether the mud will stick to the tile.

Hi Angie, welcome. Mapei makes "Eco Prim Grip" and Lowes sells it. Floor and D├ęcor probably has it too. It's a primer that you paint onto old tile when you want to tile over it. I would like to think it would help in your case with skip troweling.
