What size notch trowel would you recommend for a ceramic pool tile

2x2" x 1/4"
in a column of (3) with a 3/4” mortar bed?

If I remember correctly, I used a 3/16x3/16 U-notch on my shower floor 2x2 - Marshalltown makes a decent one they sell on Amazon.

I would try that trowel size with a test or scrap section of your mosaic on cardboard or scrap plywood. The best trowel size is one that gives 100% thinset coverage when the 2x2 sheet is fully embedded without bleeding through the grout joints excessively and requiring a lot of cleanup.

Welcome to the forum, Matt. :)

I'd agree with Ali on the 3/16" trowel, provided you don't use a V-notch trowel. If you can't find anything else, use a 1/4" trowel and hold it at a 45-degree angle when troweling. That'll get you very close to a 3/16" setting bed.
