View Full Version : How do I prep for new tile.

Hi all,
I just removed some tiles that were original to my 1968 home. These walls are in the bathroom but not the shower. The tiles removed fairly easily in most places, some places it pulled away the drywall. The previous adhesive is well attached. Can I sand it down and apply new adhesive and ceramic tiles over it? I read about using PVA over it, but not sure which product is best. I'm trying to avoid removing the drywall and having to purchase a cement/hardie backer.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Lee~ You should be able to remove anything loose and then flat trowel it with a decent, modified thinset. Let it cure for a day or so and then use the same thinset, combed and tile away...... :gerg:

What about a coating of Eco Prim Grip?
