View Full Version : Remove subfloor laid on tile from 1960?

Had a flood in our bathroom= bad. Good news is we pulled up the vinyl and under the vinyl was subfloor paper, and under the subfloor is the original tile laid down when the house was built in 1936.

We would love to expose and restore the tile, but we need to remove the paper glued to the tile prior to when they laid the vinyl.

We have tried wetting it and acetone. And it is not coming up...

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

Got pics?

When wetting it did you soak the living daylights out of it? Adding a drop or two of liquid laundry soap will help.

Thanks Paul, we are working with a demolition company recommended by our insurance. They connected with flooring pros, who said to try water, then acetone. They tried leaving a wet towel overnight. Haven't tried with laundry soap.
