Mapei Rapid Set Grout

I tried this as well recently. I haven't seen anyone on here discuss it, so here's my observations:

When mixing, start very stiff. The more you mix it, the more loose it gets. If you start at normal consistency, you'll have a bucket of soup when you're done mixing.

When they say rapid, they mean rapid. Mix small batches and start wiping in short order. I found out the hard way how fast this goes off.

Keep these two cardinal rules in mind and you'll be ok. I was cursing the stuff at first but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty cool. It's pretty much hard within an hour or so and the color consistency is great.

I'd use it again...

are you talking about Ultra Color? If so I love it. It does go quick but if you are on a smooth faced tile that isn't a big deal. Now try using it on 24x24 cleft slate that isn't as much fun

I like it too, used to be my go-to grout and was worth the special order. Great color consistency too.

Ultracolor...I love it. Love the smell too. It's great to be able to do a streak free second wash after 30-40 minutes and buff it with a terry after an hour.

black is the one color I am not a huge fan of. I have used it twice and think it dries a tad on the grey side.

I am not a fan of the 100% silicone that is color matched to it though.

Dana,

It isn't actually made by Mapei, but it is color matched to Mapei colors. It is ColorFast any way it is a PITA to use, and the colors aren't that great. The color Fast siliconized acrylics are a damn good match to Mapei colors though.

Actually I just read the link and it isn't even 100% silicone, no wonder it feels so weird to work with. And real fricking expensive also.
