I won't forget about you and find this forum very interesting. I am leaving the bar backsplash unfinished till after we take possession so I'm on a mission to learn and avoid this next time. I also enjoy the threads here and the photos of the amazing tile jobs members here have done.

I will be back with photos next week. Still have fingers crossed till then.

sonoma tantrum

John, I am about to have my installer put Sonoma Tantrum around my fireplace. What blade did you use to cut the tile and did you score on the back and then cut the front? I just want to be very specific with my installer. I feel that he can do the job but I am a perfectionist and I want it to look as good as possible.

Thanks,
Marla

Proper adhesive? to use for split faced 1x2 travertine backsplash

I was here a few months ago to ask for advice regrading a really bad glass tile job and everyone was really great! I've recently had the bad glass tile removed from my backsplash area and new drywall installed. I was wondering what type of adhesive or mortar to use when installing split faced 1x2 travertine tiles? Any help would be once again greatly appreciated

Hi Nicole,

So you ditched the glass and are now using travertine? I think you will be just fine using a regular thinset, something like Versabond should get the job done.

Thank you for your reply, our builders GM says they use mastic and the place where we bought the tile from said to use mortar and that mastic is going the way of the dodo bird, lol. So wanted to be sure, and knew this is the place to ask.
