Welcome, Ralph.
How 'bout putting a bit of information into your User Profile so folks can see what sorta fella they're having this discussion with.
You do recognize that this thread was more than five years old, so any price or wage comparisons would be a bit skewed with current numbers, yes?

Well, now that you mention it, I'll move it to a more appropriate forum.

It is interesting to see the near universal assent on the board in '03 and '04 about our industry being "recession proof". I bet there would be some who would take exception to that now...

Keep in mind, for all of the Union bashers out there, that the Boston wage scale is not applicable to the rest of the United States. Some of the complaints I've heard about the halls in Boston is that the wages are great but that there isn't enough work at that rate to keep people working full time.

That's just the problem, Shaughnn--the union doesn't care. They're out for the union. Period. If they happen to help their members in the process, so be it, but that's not their main goal.

Yeah-- the circular file.
Oh-- and Nate, as for this industry not being recession proof, I said years ago (about the time of this thread originally) that a recession would be the best thing that could happen to this trade, because it'd shake alot of the rats loose that were just here for the money, thereby making the trade alot better. Now, I forget the magazine-- might've been one of the financial rags-- the tile industry is rated the 4th strongest growing trade in the country. No joke.

I know a couple of guys in the union. What I hear is that they took a cut in pay and still most are on unemployment. There's only a handful of them working right now, and I mean a handful.
