John Wooden

I'm surprised there has not been a thread dedicated to John Wooden who passed away a few days ago at 99. For those who don't know, John Wooden is the greatest college basketball coach ever. His UCLA Bruins won an astounding 10 national championships over an 11 year period in the 60's and 70's. Kareem Abdul Jabber, Bill Walton and Henry Bibby are just a few of the legends who played on those great teams. Wooden was a class guy who was respected by all who crossed his path. I'm not a huge b-ball fan but I will always remember the most dominant sports team of my lifetime and the legend who led them. RIP Coach!

Ditto what Rick said!! He was an AWESOME coach, I wish we had more like him!! He demanded the best from his players and didn't allow them to get 'hung-up' on themselves! We need that now!

props for wooden

great man -- greater legacy . . .

his message and methods will continue to guide people for generations to come . . .

most won't even know who he was . . . sad really.

reference from wikipedia JW's seven point creed:

* Be true to yourself.
* Make each day your masterpiece.
* Help others.
* Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
* Make friendship a fine art.
* Build a shelter against a rainy day.
* Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day.

i'm not a bible guy but, having quality reference material for living is a good thing.

also from the same source:

# Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
# Flexibility is the key to stability.
# Be quick, but don't hurry.

thanks coach, adios amigo --
