Milano Almond Tile Home Depot

I've noticed several people have used Milano Almond tile from Home Depot. We had two bathrooms tiled with it about 5 years ago and decided to tile our closet also that hooks onto our master bath. We went to HD to buy the tile and one store didn't have enough so we bought what they had, and drove to the other side of town to get the rest. We found out HD will not be carrying this anymore as it's being discontinued.

Well, today, I had the tiler come and start installing it in the closet and replacing about 6 tiles of it that were cracked that we had previously installed. The tiler went home, I went in and looked and....the tile DOESN'T MATCH!!!! I am freaking out now. The tile we had installed already has more of a pinkish cast and this tile has more brown in it, like a taupe mostly with little darker spots blended in.

Granted, it's my fault I didn't take the new tile, put it up to the old to make sure it matched but this new tile like REALLY doesn't match and my tiler didn't say a word! Six pieces of this new tile mixed in with a whole floor full of what we already had and he doesn't notice?!?. I doubt what HD has left matches either since none of the cases we bought match our original tile job.

So, is my only option to now have this guy rip out all of our original tile job that we had him do 5 years ago, and go buy more of this new tile? ARGH, I could screammmmm! I don't even like this new color as much when compared to the old.

I noticed, there was one other gal who already had Milano almond in her bath and went to get more to do her shower , and she said it didn't match either. I guess this Thai Ceramic Co. in Thailand is no good. I mean, I know there are different lots and dye batches etc....but I think this is even too far off in color to acct. for something like that.
HELP?!

Thanks,
Karin

Tiles are made from different lot numbers. If you get different lot #'s, then the tile shading/coloring can be different like you experienced.

Your best option would be to find a suitable matching tile or install all new.

I'm not sure what you are asking....?

this VERY typical of big box tile cheap tile. It wont match from one lot number to another on the same pallet. Dont even think about it 6 months later much less 5 years. You will either have to live with it or change it all out. It is pretty bad your tile man didnt notice the difference. if he had you would have been unhappy but at least not at him. In my opinion he should have known the colors would be different and called it to your attention. . Its called customer service. I guess i go too far in the other direction when it comes to CS. Hammy

Hammy, the tiler might of thought the H.O. knew about the color difference, since they are the ones that supplied it. Maybe thats why he just did the repair..

Angry Milano Almond HD

Thanks for all your input. I agree, he should have told me before installing, but...he says he didn't notice it until today when he came back to grout. I've learned a hard lesson. He says it was extremely hard to get the cracked tiles up that we installed years ago in the bathroom, so taking it all up and starting over with the new tile is out of the ??? Sounds nuts to me. So, for now, our closet has the new tile, with a transition decorative long, thin tile leading into the bathroom which still has the original tile, plus six new tiles that don't match the bathroom but match the closet. Lovely. Our tilers suggestion was, go to a tile store and find something else to match the bathroom tiles as close as possible and he'll come and reinstall those 6 tiles. Gee thanks, I'm sure I'd never find anything to match close enough. Time to find a new tiler next time.

Thanks for your input everyone.
