Hi Mr. Yan.

There is no advantage to doubling the floor membrane. Waste of time and additional buildup. Don't do it. Sell the Kerdi to the next guy.

Toolnut,

Welcome to the club. You sound almost as excited as I am about Kerdi showers.

John, I am thinking about doing a mud base because of the need for a bench and using the Kerdi System to cover the whole thing. Does your book go into detail about this way of doing it? Thanks, Tom

Tom, you've got posts all over these boards about that seat. I'm not sure what you're doing, but you need the book worse than I need the ten bucks.

Hey John, Sorry about that. I did just order the Kerdi book. I got the order confirmation but how long before I would get the down load? Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,
I'll email it to you. When you save the attachment, make sure you remember what folder you put it in so you can find later.

Doubling shower membrane

John,

The reason I am asking is because I laid the walls first and then the floor. In hindsight I remember reading something that you wrote that said kerdi should be laid much like shingles with the top overlapping the bottom. I just dont want to run into any problems down the road. I am willing to go over my mistake. Will kerdi bond to kerdi?

Thanks,
Matt Ryan

Kerdi does not need to be laid like shingles. The joints are completely waterproof.

So as long as the joints overlap by 2" it doesn't matter. Is that correct?

I think I might have alluded to the shingle analogy in Tile Your World, but I've since discovered that it makes no difference at all how you make the laps and what goes in first. As Dave said, as long as you make the 2-inch laps you've got nothing to worry about.

JUst finished reading the E book!. That has given me a lot to chew on. I also ordered your book "Tiling Your World" last PM. I am really getting excited about this remodel job. Only problem the project has morphed, now I am going to re-do the walk-in closet with built -ins! Thanks Tom
