I have a very complicated layout. I have an entry way through the front door connected to the kitchen with a hallway and then a hallway connecting the kitchen with a bathroom.

Hardibacker needs an expansion joint at every entrance/exit of a room. Thus I'll need an expansion joint at the following:

Entry way / Front Hallway
Front Hallway / Kitchen
Kitchen / Kitchen (Kitchen is 18.5 ft by 17.5 ft. Hardibacker says anything over 15' needs one)
Kitchen / Back Hallway
Back Hallway / Bathroom

Since the tile's and the Hardibacker's expansion joints must match up. How in the world a person is suppose to line them up? Do I need to figure out the layout of the tile twice, once to figure out the Hardibacker layout and then again once the Hardibacker is down? Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Chris,

Lose the Hardi-backer, I suppose. The other backer companies don't spec out all those joints.

I wonder if you are a candidate for Ditra?
