What materials do you use to float a floor?

So Iím not the biggest fan of mixing Portland and sand... I guess weíll start off with a concrete substrate...

I know about self levels... and I used to use Ardex sd-p which works great... if it wasnít so expensive. Also Iím looking for a thickness thinset canít handle like 1 1/2 inches

Well John, I use sand and cement. specifically I use sand topping mix and play sand because it's easier to tote around. But on larger pulls, it's WAY cheaper to buy the sand and cement in bulk. Just gotta source the right sand, around here the guy calls it concrete sand. But sharp sand is what I've heard growing up.

Same here, Jim. Sharp sand.

John, dry pack (deck mud, same thing) is easy to use and it's cheap. Not sure why you wouldn't be a fan.
