Quick question on caulk vs grout

At exterior doors (one sliding, one hinged) and around an island - caulk instead of grout?

If there is a change of plane that forms an inside angle you should caulk it instead of grout.

Dan, I'm not sure what is meant by "change of plane" - change in height? There's not a change in height. Tile just ends at door and island.

So you would NOT caulk around an island or at an exterior door? No need to allow for expansion there?

Grout only goes between two tiles that are on the same plane. Everywhere else gets caulk.

Cheers, Wayne

Hi Ann,

Dan is stating an industry rule for pros.

Yes, caulk at your exterior door and around the island . . . as well as at the baseboards if you didn't remove them. Same for all the cabinet bases.

Thank you all! Glad you specified cabinet bases too, John... that was a question for me also.
