Grout Color Infidelity

I have read several reviews (Lowes,Amazon) about the severe degree of difference in the dried product vs. the manf's sample. Both say that the end color is 4 to 5 shades away from what was represented. Warm Gray was the color used.
This was also my experience with a sample I made from another Mapei product in "Warm Gray".
My result was almost true white as were those of the two negative reviewers afore mentioned.
Has anyone else experienced this color misrepresentation?

The color in the color in the bucket is different than the cured color

The color of the sample charts in the stores are often wrong from being touched so much

The color on the label is for identification purposes

To get the best color representation, we use only new, untouched grout color charts mailed to us from the manufacturers.

Thank you.
I have called Mapei for a color chart.
Hopefully whats on the charts is true to whats in the bucket.

We monitor the comments on the Lowes site but because Amazon's sellers aren't our direct customers I hadn't read what was there. I stopped by and saw a few of the comments, the only one I found that mentioned color was on the Avalanche where they were complaining it was too white. White is always a tricky 'color' because what people are really asking is that we complement their tile and there are 100's of different white tiles out there. If the worst thing someone says is that our white is too white, I'll take it.

I don't think it's a fair assessment to say that Flexcolor CQ dries differently than the chips and charts. We've seen our color complaints plummet with Flexcolor vs the typical Portland cement grouts that require mixing with water. While we can't predict if a particular chip may have gotten dirty over time in a store environment, when we send it from here it should look really, really close to the finished color of the grout. All grouts are subject to some variability, but Flexcolor CQ is about as locked in color-wise as a grout gets.

Thanks Dan for the defense.
I was not trying to lay accusations actually, merely voicing observation from two Users on Amazon and Lowes who used the FlexcolorCQ in Warm Gray.
Yes the Avalanche user had issues...but White is a very problematic color family

I read every negative review on both sites, not "a few" to extrapolate from, to discover if Color Integrity was an issue. This site has had the highest majority of strong experiences with the product overall, and who would not bias towards professional installers?
Just trying to make an assessment of one element of product reliability..thats all.
And after talking with a Southwest Mapei sales rep I did make a purchase at Lowes.

I think most people in the tile business make actual grout samples, especially for customers who might be, shall we say, extra picky? I know when I was doing high end stuff we made samples on every job using the various substrates and the tiles that would be grouted.

And as Dan implied when talking about white grout, any color might not look right with a particular tile. Just comparing a cured grout to a sample card doesn't really do the job.

So I made a sample..

then launched myself with enthusiasm. The color fidelity is true to the illustration. Grout a few lines (I used 18" x tiles), then immediately wipe with a wrung sponge, then the microfiber, and lastly the pail-inserted Mapei sponge.
Only complaint is that when using the included sheet to preserve the product that the lid does not fully seal. Added a rubber band and several plastic bags atop the lid.
This product allowed me to avoid Spectracolor which I was dreading..and overall is a bit of a thrill to use.

It's been a little while since I've used Flexcolor but I remember the plastic sheet fitting down inside the bucket. I don't remember it coming above the lid and the lid latching over it.

Flexcolor CQ vs Ultracolor Plus

I need some expert advise on which grout to use. Which one is better for hotel floor, Flexcolor CQ or Ultracolor Plus. I though I would just get Flexcolor CQ as it does not need to be sealed but when I called Mapei support today the tech said Ultracolor Plus is a better grout. Please advise what will be better for commercial use. I do not mind paying more for better quality. This will be used on 12x24 porcelain tiles, 10 mm thickness and 1/8 grout line. Thanks.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Ultracolor should be the more durable of the two. Flexcolor doesn't need sealing. If you want the best of both worlds then Mapei has an epoxy grout- Kerapoxy, I think?
