How Bad Is Tengo Internet?

Those of you who travel through RV parks have undoubtedly encountered Tengo Internet service a time or two. I don't wanna provide a link on accounta I don't wanna help them with their search engine optimization.

Those who know the company will already have a firm opinion one way or the other, I expect.

I don't stay in RV parks all that often, and when I do I try to avoid those who use the Tengo for their WiFi, but sometimes there is no choice, like now. And I've stayed in hotel chains that use the same service.

And the service is predictably terrible. And the management of this park (near Bolder, Nevada) is quite familiar with the complaints, as I find are most other park operators who use the service.

My question is, has anyone out there ever had a good experience with this company?

I have not. Not even once. Not in an RV park nor a hotel. Not even for a single night's stay. There is always a problem of some sort with the service. I can't always pin it down to the service provider rather than the location owner, but if the WiFi is provided through Tengo there will be a problem.

Anyone out there wanna defend this company and maybe tell me where the good experiences happened so I might try to visit there?

Note: I had to tether my laptop to my cell phone (not a smart phone) to post this while my Tengo service is once again trying to find itself.

Good morning CX! This is Sandy from TengoInternet. I apologize for the connection issues you have experienced with TengoInternet. From the location given, it looks as though you were staying at Lake Mead RV Village in Boulder City, NV. Is this correct? This location is experiencing an issue with maxed out bandwidth, or the Fair Access Policy, per their internet service provider.

We've seen growth in the number of devices accessing wifi networks by 25% over the last year. Bandwidth usage has increased by 42%. Keeping up with the increased usage is an issue for many locations. Remote locations, such as Lake Mead RV Village, do not have many options for ISP providers.

We are actively working with our customers to upgrade their bandwidth, when possible. In the last month, we have upgraded the ISP speed at 18 locations.

Please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,
Sandy

When I go camping I'm happy to get a text out.

If something is really important I check emails and such during the trip to town. Otherwise its a MyGuyver moment with tin foil and a coat hanger.

I wouldn't call that assistance.

Assistance is helping someone cross the street.

I would call it advising.

Advising is telling someone they can't cross the street because there are too many cars.

Welcome, Sandy.

Yes, it was the Lake Mead RV Village was the most recent site that prompted my complaint, but, again, it seems to be much the same everywhere.

'Fraid I've got no idea what you might mean by "the Fair Access Policy, per their internet service provider." Tengo Internet was my Internet service provider at that site, as it is where I'm currently located in Las Vegas, NV (Circus Circus parking lot). The bandwidth issue I am familiar with, and that's always part of the problem, including this location.

The current RV Park (KOA) should be able to afford plenty of bandwidth at fifty-something dollars per day rental, but the service gets very slow both in the mornings and evenings. Not as slow as Lake Mead, but still rather painfully slow at times and this park is currently not even close to capacity.

Monday night: Slow.
Tuesday morning 07:00: Very slow.
Tuesday evening 18:00: Slow and by 19:30 (now) very, very slow. [Edit] By 20:45 slow enough to be considered out of service.

But it's not just the slow service. Or even the drop-offs. My problems with Tengo have gone far deeper than that a number of times. At the recent Lake Mead site, I called the Tengo customer service number when I simply could get no service at all during the first couple hours. I got a recording telling me how busy y'all were and saying that if I left a number a representative would call back. Of course I never received any such call. And that is not the first such experience for me with your company.

And I know it's not just me. Whenever I roll my eyes at the registration desk and say, "Oh, no, not Tengo Internet," the representative at the desk invariably indicates a familiarity with the reaction and says they hear the complaint regularly.

Don't know what y'all need to do to make it better, but I do suggest you need to do something.

I do appreciate your taking the time to weigh in here on the matter.

And I'm curious to know how you were alerted to the thread.

When you're the only gig in town things don't change real fast.

Here in Washington, the liquor stores were all government run until the last year, or so. It wasn't until voters chose to privatize that the government started running tasting sessions and staying open later.

At least the lady from the internet company came on and acknowledged it.

I have an account at Tengo because I stay in lots of RV parks all over the country including Alaska. It's not the best connection, but it's not the worst, either. It works for me once I'm connected. The process for getting connected is tedious, especially when you don't use Internet Explorer.

And as has been said, when you encounter Tengo it's the only game in town.

Tengo Internet is so bad that when you press the send button, a little door opens up on the side of the monitor and a pigeon flies out.
