Grouting tips

I do quite a bit of tiling in my own homes and I'm wondering if there is some tips on minimising amoutn of cleanup tile after grouting. It just seems I have to go over and clean the tiles way to many times. There must be a better way. Any tips on how the pros grout? Personally i grout, then cleanup with songe and water. Then i use a flat spongemop until its clean 5-6 times of cleaning. Oh my first name is Jean btw

Welcome aboard, Jean.

Yes, some tips. You usually have to wash with the sponge more than once. We do it twice at a minimum. Even then it's sometimes necessary to go back and clean with vinegar in a couple days.

You should never have to mop 5 or 6 times. Moping is something you do after the grout has been cleaned and sealed.

I'm going to move you to our grouting and cleaning forum. You'll like it over there.

I normally do clean it twice with a sponge. First the first time to get the worst off, then a second time. But even after the second time its not clean at all. I use the spongemop afterwards to minimize the strain on my back, its the flat type, so it doesnt push down into the groutlines. It just seems a hard way to do it to lay on the floor cleaning by hand, i figured u pros had a smarter way to do it. What if u have this huge 20000 sf commerical building to grout. Do u still lay on your knees cleaning with sponge?

Most of them have a surefire method to save wear and tear on the body......they employ a helper.

Biggest tip I have, change your water often . 20000 sq ft would take a lot of changes of water and perhaps several sponges, ya think?

Jay f,

20000 sq ft would take ~ 400 sponges if your using epoxy grout and 2000 gallons of water . I'm guessing this is when you get a floor machine and a few helpers

Hahaha yeah a helper would be the answer. You mentioned a floor machine? What is that and does it work? I have been tihnking that maybe a polishing machine of some sort would work after the initial sponge cleanup but im not sure what the groutline would say to that

We’ve had numerous reports of folks adding TYW Neutral Tile & Stone Cleaner to their grout cleanup water.
