Question Stone tile seal to resist graffitti & make easy cleanup

I'm pursuing projects that are outdoors (mosaics) and are of marble and granite tile. What should I do to make my work graffitti resistant and what should I do to remove graffitti if my work is tagged?

WAAAHOO! YEEHA! YIPPEE!

TYW Stone Beauty is our toughest impregnator, but it enhances as well. Most graffiti barriers enhance. Impregnators work in this application, but not as well as a coating. If you don’t mind coating the surface, check out the Prosoco link. If you don’t want to coat the surface, give Stone Beauty a shot.

Graffitti resist for POLISHED granite/marble tile

Hiya! Me again with more on the same question a whole year (gasp!) later. My how time flys! I'm actually bidding on a project where they want graffitti resist and in reading over the tech data for Prosoco, I see that their product is not for polished granite or marble - eek. That's what I'm proposing to work with. That and some porcelain glazed and glass too. Is there another product that will work for polished surfaces? Thanks!

Eileen

Hi Eileen,

The problem is it would need to be a coating. Most polished stones don't take coatings very well.

I would change material.

Hi Eileen

Welcome back!

I can't believe it took a year to get a name out of you!

Have you contacted the Prosoco tech team direct?

It's possible that their Gloss 'n Guard may work. It's a topical that will grab the polished surface of stone.

Talking More products

Well, only a year - not too bad (my how time flys!). I haven't contacted Prosoco directly yet, since thier tech sheet said 'no' on polished surfaces, but I probably should anyhow. I did email Miracle Sealants Co. in Arcadia CA. They seemed to include polished surfaces in their list of what they can seal with their 511 product line. Only thing, they don't seem to list graffiti in their specs, they just comment about it at a site (NTCA) I found in a search. I've submitted my proposal with a quote to seal the mosaic with their stuff once - it was affordable. We'll see if I need to know more or not. So far the other commissions I have ahead of me are indoors in a controlled environment, way up high so I'm not worried.

Thanks for your help!!!

Eileen

Hi Eileen

Beautiful work!

Regarding the graffiti issue. If you choose to use a impregnating sealer only, you will be wasting your money. If you choose to use a sacrificial coating (such as Prosoco's Gloss n Guard), it will make the removal easier. BTW, Gloss n Guard will adhere to a polished surface. You would need Fast Acting Stripper to remove the graffiti and layer of Gloss n Guard, at which time you would need to reapply (in the affected areas only).

sacrificial coating

Gotcha. I have been wondering about that. It made more sense to me but I wasn't sure. At the site I mentioned was the only place that Miracle Seal even approached the word 'graffiti'. I like that Prosoco has that specific a use in their products. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

And glad ya like my work.

More graffiti help needed!!!

Hi again - In researching the product you recommended, Prosoco's Gloss n Guard, I don't find that product listed in thier line of materials. What I do see definately does not work on polished surfaces either. I've sent them a note, but wondered if you could clarify which product you referrred to.

I'm more concerned than ever since it's looking like I'll get this commission - will know for sure next week how it's looking. It's calendared for actual construction in May so I do have time to find the right product...just worried is all! Thanks.

Question Grafitti protection for glazed porcelain mosaic, exterior installation

Okay - so the mosaic has evolved to have no stone whatsoever. It's now all glazed porcelain that I am looking to protect from grafitti in an outdoor location. Can you suggest a product that would work well for this? And would using Polyblend sanded grout mixed with Hydroment addmix instead of water for this pup be a good plan? I've done it before for exterior installations and felt it would be a good choice for this one too...thoughts?

To see the work in progress, go to my web site at www.MosaicsByEileen.com and go to the Breaking News page...thanks for all your help!
