Deposits on tile around pool?
I am looking at doing some repairs around an indoor pool and the tile has a nice haze from all the water and 20+ years of little maintenance. The tile is a 1x1 unglazed porcelain. The deposit does scrape off with a razor but no way am I scraping 1x1's with a razor. Someone tried some sort of an acid cleaner on the tile and it did help a little but mainly just destroyed the grout (no idea what the cleaner may have been). I will be replacing some broken, missing, and cracked pieces along with working on the grout but if I can get the tile looking better too I will have a chance at making more money. Any help would be great!

200g honing powder might work wonders..try it in an innc...You know the drill

Trask, What is an innc? I am scratching my head with that one?
Marge, I was actually thinking of trying some clr or similar to see if it happened to be calcium.

Best way to get the hard water stains off of pools and fountains is with media blasting. There are rigs and special media sold just for this purpose that do a great job and do not contaminate the pool.
Of course it is a good bet you don't want to invest in the equipment for this one job, but you might find somebody in your area that would come in and do it.

I would use the clr and a scrubby pad, let it dwell,make sure the water level in the pool is right below the water line so it doesn't ruin the finish,and redo the grout.

To remove the calcium build up in pools here there are companies that shoot glass beading. It runs about $3 a linear foot.

In this economy I'd try and do it in house..unless your really busy
CLR might be a great first step.

Floor machine and CLR or phosphoric acid. Put a malgrit brush on the floor machine, spray down the acid mixed with HOT water, let it dwell for 10 minutes and scrub. Rinse and shop vac it off.
