Yes, I did. Both walls are exterior walls. I notched the joists 1 1/2". I sistered 'em up real good kinda like in Brian's link, Then I put solid blocking between them on both ends of the notched area, which aided as a nailer (screwer, if that's a word.) Glued and screwed some 3/4" Plytanium and mudded flush with bathroom underlayment, which I had the pleasure of installing after removing the 27 year old particle board. Installed ditra to shower opening and kerdi cornered, banded, and covered the rest. Had a solid 3/8"/ft slope and allowed about 1/16" lippage on the threshold. Hopefully enough to keep sloshing water in the shower receptor. But it'd be OK if some got out.

Finally finished at friend's

Finally got finished at my friend's home, was there about 6 months, lots of tile and stone work. She is an interior decorator with vintage taste so I did the marble master bathroom, floor and shower in cararra. Also had the piece made for the curb, the tub, and vanities made in same material. Kitchen was done on a stone modular pattern which I didn't do but wanted to post the shot of the island marble top which is huge. Pic of butler's pantry just getting ready to grout, basketweave pattern. Her daughter's bathroom, all subway tile, 3'X3'X9', so it was kinda tight in that kind of space, limestone on the floor and ceiling and rest of the room, wavy Florida Tile subway tile, pita but looks nice. I don't want to see any subway tile for a while!

Jon,

Your last photo in the 1st post does your shower floor have extreme pitch where it meets the walls?
