Anthony's House - Tiling Photo's

I love seeing photo's of other folks tiling progress, so I thought I would share a few of my own.

For some reason, with absolutely no prior experience, we decided we were going to use tile in a number of places throughout the house. Lord have mercy on a newbie like myself... Ha Ha

Starting to tile the walls. Working vertically takes a bit to get used to. Scary thinking the tiles are all gonna fall off. Ha Ha

The wall tiles are up and grouted. The niche was by far the most difficult part of the shower surround...

Here's where we are now. The wall and floor tiling is finished. The wood ceiling and trim is up, our first working toilet is installed, and I'm in the process of building the bath cabinet. We are planning on edging the wall tile with wood trim to match the ceiling trim (we love wood!). Both of the grout colors ended up lighter than the samples on the brochure. Typical... Ha Ha

We certainly won't win any design awards, and I made my share of mistakes along the way, but we're very happy with our first tiled bath!

Then we needed a woodstove hearth. Nothing fancy, just basic fire protection on the floor. Since it's in a walkway, we wanted it flush with the upcoming hardwood flooring. Didn't want to trip on the corner of the hearth and reach out to the woodstove to catch ourselves. Ha Ha. So, here's a photo of the room. The blue tape on the floor is where the woodstove is gonna go...

The backerboard goes down for the woodstove. Hardibacker is 3x5 and the hearth is 4x5. So, I had to use two sheets. The scrap will be used elsewhere...

The tiles go down. I had hoped to avoid cut tiles on the hearth, but eliminating the back row would have made the hearth too small, and adding a row would have made it too big. So, I ended up with a 1 inch strip of tiles along the back wall. It will mostly be covered with trim anyway...

Grouting the hearth... There's always something nerve wracking about smearing grout all over your clean new tile. So afraid it will never come back off... Ha Ha
