Choosing tile for a shower curb?

I am preparing to order tile for my shower and I am wondering if I should use a bull nose tile on the top of my 4" shower curb? It seems to me that the factory edge or the edge of a cut tile would be uncomfortable on the feet and the color of the tile edge would differ from the face of the tile. I am planning on using 8" x 16" porcelain tile for the walls and there is a 3" x 16" bullnose available in this tile as well. What would you pros do?

THANKS
Brett

There are many ways to finish off a tile edge, bullnose being the most popular. You can use them on the curb or an edge profile like these:

I myself, prefer to use a 6" sill on my curbs. They can be a natural stone or a manufactured product.

Hi Brett,

Definitely bullnose.

Or you can buy a marble curb top called a "saddle."

I am no expert, but if you are using granite for your vanity top, I would use the same for your shower curb. I used the same granite for the vanity top, shower curb and door threshold. Granted, it is a very small bath so it all blends well together. if your bath is large, it may not work so well.

I like Julie's idea, or if the granite didn't work maybe a piece of travertine, depending on the color of your tile.

Yup, I like the granite idea as well, if there's granite on the counter. Because of its size you can usually get it for a "scrap" price. Also nice to get some smaller pieces for shower niche shelves or corner shelves. Ties it all together very nicely.
