I am new here.. Need to know if this is the right thing my tile-setter is doing?

I have 24x48" tile
He laid down the ditra (i bought schluter ALL-SET)
He spread thinset over the ditra and is letting it dry until tuesday... Then putting more thinset ontop and laying the tiles down..

That... does... not... seem... right..
I asked him if that is the correct way to do, because I have never seen a video showing it be done like that, he said, "It'll be fine, i've done hundreds of jobs and only use schluter"

what should I do?

No problem with pre-filling, let him continue.

I am a cabinet maker and know nothing about the different techniques...

I was originally going to do this on my own, but then ran out of time and hired someone

I pre-fill on most of my jobs. Never had a problem. I know of several others here that do the same.

Just don't walk on it until it's dry.

No need to prefill the cells beforehand but there is no issue with this what so ever. It is standard practice to use left over thinset from laying down the Ditra to prefill some of the cells so as not to waste material. I also find prefilling makes tile setting quicker and easier as you aren't busy filling in all the cells and making sure the thinset locks into the dove tails.

Even Schluter technical support will give the approval to this method of pre-filling the waffles.
