I actually did that once Brendon, It was a small area in a basement and they wanted to raise the height 1/2" so I just used thinset to attach 1/2" Durock to the slab. Use a premium thinset and dont let it skim over, trowel the thinset and put the board right in, and be sure to press it down real good then dont walk on it till the next day. I would not use the Hardie for this though. Only brands like Wonderboard or Durock (real cement board)
