I have 2 sides up just have the back (short) side...

Fill with thinset. Should I use cementboad tape first then thinset then mesh tape with redguard. Or just slap some thinset over the holes and then mesh tape with redguard

Specs call for 1/4" x 3/16" v notch but mine is really worn out. And I have a few newer 1/4" trowels.
