The plastic or tarpaper is only to keep the wood subfloor from drying out the mud. So, using your old bucket of Redgard is ok.:)

I don't want to start a debate, but what is wrong with the install? Hollow sound is normal for mud floors, right? If thats the only concern, everything has been done correctly.:)

I caulk first with white, then paint everything after.

For the tile to paint edges, I use the grout color caulk. If you get a little messy, you can clean up the edge with paint.:)
