I know this has been explained before but once more please?
How do you post a picture from another site here? As Bud, Cami, JC, and others can do?http://www.clicksmilies.com/sammlung/fragend/fragend013.gif

Jim,

How are you posting all your little smiley things here? It's exactly the same thing.

Read this carefully in the FAQ section of this board.

http://johnbridge.com/vbulletin/index.php?action=bbcode

When you see an image you want to post here from anywhere on the Internet, right click on it. Then click "properties." Then highlight the url of the image, which starts with http://, etc.

Copy and paste that information on this reply form using the codes I've had you read. If I put the codes here, they will disappear.

Thanks John, It's just not working. As you say it should work like the Smilies but it doesn't. I think it's my computer, but then again....

When I click on properties I get a pop up with the url, but once I highlight the url, I can't do a damn thing.

I'm going to try a little longer.

Jim- just keep right-clicking, then left-clicking- you'll get there!

Maybe, just maybe, you'll get there. :)

After you highlight the url in properties, right click on the highlighted area and then choose "copy" from the drop down menu that appears.

Now it's on your clipboard. You do know what a clipboard is, don't you, Mr. Contractor?

"Paste" it onto this form and put the little tags in front and in back -- no spaces. I'll put asterisks in the tags so they will appear here. Use them without the asterisks. Here they are:

[img*]http,whatever[/img*]

That's it. Just eliminate the *.

It WILL work.

Damn, Jim Boy, I hope you didn't try to pick her up! :)

Das es un Wapiti. Un BIG Wapiti!

Cami:

Oh, yes, killing Wapiti with sharp sticks is an option in New Mexico. Everything is by lottery type drawing out there (except bear, turkey and some deer). If you have serious interest, send email and I'll 'splain you who to talk to. Can do other critters with sharp sticks, too. Persian Ibex is a favorite.

Oops, missed the first Q. Don't know the spread on that one, but it was substantial. That hunter in the picture is a story himself. Has in excess of 150 MOUNTED trophys in his house (including 3 elephants) and that's only because he hasn't gotten around to the other 50 or 60 that he still intends to mount. These are all things he, hisownself, has killed. Hunts a lot.

Well, the hunts sound ideal with all that hiking and packing in and other guy stuff, but unless those prices are in pesos (and what are the odds of that in NM...) I think Jack will hafta stick to Michigan/Canadian hunting and fishing trips. Looks like a very nice outfit, Kelly.

For several years now my wife and I have made a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park the first week in October. The primary reason for this trip is to view the wildlife but primarily the Elk.

Elk are in full rut at that time and they are fascinating animals to watch. In the evenings like clock work the Elk come down from the higher country to the meadows. They graze they drink.

The bulls bugle and contest one anothers presence. The older Elk don't want the young studs anywhere near their harem. Frequently a youngster is anxious to strut his stuff so he knows he must first challenge the reining bull of any particular harem.

A male Elk will not go after just any cow, and a cow won't have just any male. The hierarchy is absolute. Once a cow selects her male he is hers for the season unless of course that male losses a battle to another male.

Rocky Mountain Elk are North American Red Deer. At least that's the story told by the Park Rangers and their publications.

cx

Ah, Ms. Cami, I forget you can trace them there pichers back to their source (thanks for that little trinket of knowledge, by the way).

Not entirely a guy thing. We have ladies of the female persuasion who slay Wapiti, Orex, Bambi, and other tasty species. Ladies always welcome in camp, either as hunter or guest. But on some hunts you gotta be able to do a substantial amount of walking. Up hill. Both ways.

Unfortunately, those prices are in American dollars. But I'm told by our clients that it's still a very good deal (I haven't hunted for many years and have never bought a guided hunt). I recall one of our bow Ibex clients telling how he paid $10,000 for a sheep hunt (tehe) in Montana or Wyoming and never saw a ram except through a spotting scope. He still thought it was a great hunt and a good price!

Save your pennies and bring Jack on out there. You'll be glad you did. I'll even promise to come help just so's I can meet you folks. Never too early to start applying; might take years to get drawn for the good places.

End of advertisement. :o

Bambi? Never take Bambi. Bambi's dad, however....

Around here, P.E.T.A. stands for People Eating Tasty Animals.

Cami:

Yep, have the same organization around here; been a member for years. Orex is the hands down winner in that catagory around our camp fires.

John:

You gotta remember that Bambi is not the cute little kid you remember from the movies. These days he's a fully grown gang member and spends a lot of his time bullying the little deer and chasing their mothers around the woods and......well, whatever.

But not to worry, mostly don't nobody shoots Bambi on acounta Ranger Rick lay a big ticket on you if he find out, and it's one of them tickets what gets you INTO jail rather than out. Now Bambi's parental units? That's a horse of a different feather. http://www.clicksmilies.com/sammlung/waffen/waffen038.gif

If anybody remembers, or cares, in an earlier thread I told of my first job as a yout, as a camel driver and the herd of Elk we cared for. If I remember correctly the description on the enclosure mentioned Red Deer. They certainly looked more like Bud's picture than the Elk from hell in CX's picture.

"Man is the whitetail's natural predator here on the East Coast, due to the absence of the Wolf and the Cougar.".............Why? Because the Hunters KILLED them all!!!!!

cx

Plenty argument can be had on the subject, for sure. Hell, the "experts" can't all agree on whether it's a "native" or "exotic" species for record scoring.

My best understanding is that our Elk (Rocky Mountain variety) are generally accepted to be a "close cousin" to the European Red Deer, but not the same animal, as it were. I think the Roosevelt (sp?) variety on the west coast is closer to a Red Deer, but that's barely above a guess - read or heard it somewhere kinda thing.

Hell, they think they got Elk in Europe too, except they're really moose. Always been kinda confusing.

Me, I can tell the ones we hunt from a deer or a pack horse or a mule or a bovine, so they give me (give hell, sell me) a guide license and say, "be careful". And I can tell the big ones from the REALLY BIG ones, which is also a plus. If someone were to run some Red Deer in with our Elk and say you could only shoot one or the other, welllll, we might have a problem there. But if'n they run in some of them European Elk, fella would know right away, eh?

Where did you find the info about six species, Bud? I never knew we had that many. Maybe I'm helpin' people shoot the wrong things! Look bad on the ol' resume.

I ever tell you how to tell the difference between the tracks of a big bull elk and a bovine?

http://www.wmtinc.com/cougar.jpg
Cougars? They're aren't all gone-just most of them, sadly. The guy that put in our foundation swears he saw cougar tracks in the fresh sand while we were downstate. Several locals have mentioned sightings in our area. We're within a stone's throw of some large wetland nature preserves (formerly known as swamps) so it's certainly a possiblity. And after this article, some of the skeptics got a bit quieter.

Bri, you want some white tails? (I think they are whitetails, anyways their deer) they are all over the east end of Lon Gisland, eating everything in sight. I predict a murder here one of these days because some people feed them while others are trying to get rid of them. The damn things are so tame they will walk up to you.

I will be happy to send every effen one of them along with the Canadian Geese to you.

Seems like the publications put out by the Rocky Mountain National Park Service said the Red Deer (Elk) walked here from the Northwest many many moons ago. They crossed over at the Aleutians and came on down.

John, I saw Bambi, too. Just not the second release... :D Nowhere did they show Bambi's Mom jumping out in front of a car. New York is #1 in car-deer accidents(about 70,000 per year) and Michigan is #2 (about 68,000 per year. Might as well shoot 'em for food than let them die and get all bloated by the roadside.

Alas, Bambi's mom was shot by a hunter.

Hey, don't get me wrong, guys. I'm not a hunter, but I certainly have nothing against it if you use the meat. I'm a fisherman -- a FOOD fisherman. I don't throw 'em back like those smarties on TV do.

Now Kelly, tell the folks how deer are hunted in Texas.

cx
12-03-2001, 08:12 PM
Too embarasing for moi!

Suffice it to say I don't call what they do hunting. Harvesting is far more accurate.

For those of you in states with real hunting laws, Bubba is not only allowed to carry his loaded rifle in his truck during hunting season, I think it may actually be required! Bubba thinks it's cheating to actually get out of the truck to shoot a deer. Well, unless he's getting out to get on his ATV - which will have multiple gun racks attached - to drive to his heated blind which stands permanently near an open field, in the middle of which is an automatic deer feeder (made by Sweeny Enterprises, just a couple miles down the road from my hovel).

I could go on, but.......

Cami:
I'm a bit surprised at your statistical data about deer being harvested actually using the vehicle as the weapon. I can't imagine that any state could rank above our own beloved Texas in number of whitetails slain by automobile. The damn things are like rabbits around here (And not a hell of a lot bigger, I might add). Driving the back roads after dark is safer than Russian Roulette, but not a hell of a lot. Maybe y'all just report your kills more often.

Kelly, I don't think all of the states keep track of car-deer accidents. Those numbers popped up on a couple of sites, but I didn't look for Texas. I guess I should have known you Texans would have wanted to lay claim to being #1...

Sheesh, John, I was trying to give you some credit- Bambi's original release was 1942. I guess you are the original mud man. :D

John Bridge
12-04-2001, 04:39 PM
It's not still on my night stand, but Bambi was read to my younger sister and me when I was in first grade by my mother. We'd go into her room right before bedtime and she'd read. I can still see the pictures if I close my eyes. That was in 1948.

I didn't know the movie had come out before then. I do recall seeing it after the original "reading." :)

Like I say, I've nothing against hunters and hunting in general, but I would have loved to have been able to track down that son of a bitch who shot Bambi's mom!

So you still have it on your night stand, eh, Jim? My copy wore out, and I now have the Cat in the Hat in that place of honor, along with a couple lesser works I've been trying to polish off for a year or two now. :D
